Install the FairCommit extension.
This pilot extension records privacy-limited development metadata for an authorized assignment. It does not collect source code, prompts, clipboard content, or terminal text.

This is a sideloaded pilot package, not a Visual Studio Marketplace listing. Install it only when your instructor has invited you to a FairCommit pilot.
Install
- Open Extensions in VS Code.
- Open the Extensions view menu and choose Install from VSIX….
- Select the downloaded file and reload VS Code if prompted.
Connect your assignment
- Clone and open the private assignment repository created by FairCommit.
- Open the FairCommit shield in the VS Code Activity Bar.
- Choose Pair VS Code in the FairCommit dashboard.
- Approve the displayed pairing code in your browser.
- Return to the dashboard and confirm the assignment, enabled languages, and local queue.
FairCommit matches the repository remote automatically. The pilot currently verifies Python, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS—not every language VS Code can open.
Control and support
Choose Sign out and revoke device in the dashboard or visit account settings to revoke a paired device. If collection is interrupted, FairCommit reports a coverage gap instead of treating missing activity as suspicious.
